About Creation Spirituality Guest Contributor: Rev. Dr. Sid Hall

Editor’s note: We asked Rev. Dr. Sid Hall, president of Creation Spirituality Communities, to answer the question, “What is Creation Spirituality?” as this quarter’s issue from AllCreation.org. Here’s a quick hello from Rev. Hall.

About Sid Hall:

Rev. Dr. Sid Hall, III, is a social activist with the heart of a mystic. He is the lead minister at Trinity Church of Austin, a progressive congregation affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the United Methodist Church, and Creation Spirituality Communities.

Sid has served as the lead minister of Trinity since 1988. Rev. Hall is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church (UMC) and has clergy standing in the United Church of Christ (UCC). He has been a leader in the Reconciling Ministries Network (the movement within the UMC for the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ persons), and served on their national board of directors from 1996 to 2002. He has had the privilege of being arrested for civil disobedience with MLK’s daughter and Gandhi’s grandson.

Sid is married to Mary Pratt, an Austin psychotherapist and adjunct professor at Huston-Tillotson University. They have four children and two grandchildren. Learn more about Sid and contact Sid via his church website.

Dr. Hall is the author of Christian Anti-Semitism and Paul’s Theology: A Christian Liberation Theology of the Jewish People (Fortress Press, 1993) and co-author of a book with James Harrington entitled Three Mystics Walk into a Tavern: A Once and Future Meeting of Rumi, Meister Eckhart, and Moses de León in Medieval Venice (Hamilton Books, 2015). He is currently writing a book about what it means to be a progressive, values-centered church. It is titled Breath to Bone: Sustaining Values for the 21st Century Church.

Rev. Hall currently serves on two national boards: Equity for Women in the Church https://equityforwomeninthechurch.org/ and Creation Spirituality Communities https://cscommunities.org/. Sid is the current President of the Board of Creation Spirituality Communities.
