Homelands: How the East Was Won (videos)
This month we collaborate with Mr. Vance Blackfox in exploring the theme, Homelands. Vance is communications director at Native Americans In Philanthropy, and has a Master of Arts from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. His contributions here help us feel and understand the Native American perspective. The PBS videos he shares below deftly tell the story of the White invaders’ betrayal and annihilation of America’s first peoples. The White invaders also caused incalcuable destruction of the Creator’s works. Watch. Each. Video.
1. After the Mayflower
“It Was a Community of Communities. But (annihilation) was a God-ordained practice, in that one would be spreading Christianity and European civilization, and there was a moral obligation to do so.”
2. Tecumseh’s Vision
“I don’t think we realize just how ruthless Thomas Jefferson was; the architect of westward expansion.”
3. Trail of Tears
“The Cherokee peoples’ near-unanimous pleas never received the consideration of the United States Senate…”
