Envisioning Transformation: Marcus Kar
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” (Joseph Campbell)
Marcus Kar is a native of “North” Minneapolis, a predominantly African-descent (African-American) community struggling to overcome racism, economic poverty, and other forms of America’s institutional biases. Marcus is program director at Youth Farm, “a multi-faceted youth development organization growing food and young leaders, healthy bodies and minds, positive identity, neighborhood connections, community opportunities, and healthy relationships.” Mentor, healer, urban-farmer, innovative musician, teacher, and community-builder — in this interview Marcus shares time-honed and garden-grown insights about his transformative works and vision for a better future. He talks about how and where to find healing and healthy-self. His wisdoms are extensive (sample quotes below). Marcus is interviewed by guest editor, Rev. Louis Tillman, as part of our Envisioning Transformation collection. AllC editor, Chris Searles, joins in.
“The new revolution has nothing to do with control or division. It has a lot to do with addition, and it has a lot to do with balance.”
