Earth Day Zoom - with Kids! (Amie Stone King)
Proverbs 22:6.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Need a Creative Way to Celebrate Earth Day?
Being charged with staying at home may be especially hard on children. Away from school, their friends, and unable to see grandparents or relatives makes it seem like they are trapped in their homes. Outdoor play is a great way to inspire creativity and hope (in all of us). As the mother of two, I offer this Zoom Challenge that gets a thumbs up from both the seventeen and nine year old.
Gather a group of your child’s friends for a Zoom meeting. Let them know you will be playing an outdoor Zoom Challenge. If they want to take their phones/electronics outside that’s even better. Remind them that their device must stay in one spot, not be taken with them during the game. With everyone ready to go, give the group a single object to run and find (outside). This can be simple for younger kids, a leaf, a green object, a rock, or more difficult, a mulberry or oak leaf, bermuda grass, a fossil. The first person to return with the object is the winner. We’ve played this for a solid 30 minutes with my children and their cousins and friends. It’s a hit!
Another variation is an actual Zoom outdoor scavenger hunt where you give each participant a list to find. They can work alone or in teams by carrying their phones with them. The first group with all the objects wins. Here’s to more time outside and great family fun on Zoom. Happy Earth Day!
Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
