@VegucationATX (Marillah King)
Marillah King, daugther of Matt and Amie King, created and carried out this educational project for her Girl Scout Silver Award, to help people learn about options for healthier eating. Here is her educational pamphlet. The King family are members of First Baptist Church in Austin, TX.
"People in general, especially teens, need to eat more healthfully. Many do not realize that they have access to reasonably priced foods that are locally sourced or just how nutritious and tasty vegetables can be. My age group is growing heavier than they have ever been due to our consumption of highly processed foods, oils and sugar. We need to move back toward natural, simple eating in order to change the long-term outlook for our health as a generation and to help repair and conserve the lands where we live. My Girl Scout Silver award project consisted of spreading the word about healthier eating and growing practices through cooking demonstrations, taste tests, classroom talks and distribution of a paper guide called Vegucation ATX. May we all remember that our eating habits affect not only our bodies, but our minds and spirits as well, and that the better we care for ourselves the more we ease the impact on the earth.
