Ryan Camero - Uplifting His Community
Ryan Camero is a leading activist, artist, and self-proclaimed "queer wolf" out of Stockton, California. Ryan began volunteering at age 17. As a college student Ryan gained recognition as member of the California Student Sustainability Coalition, storyteller and educator for the Beehive Design Collective, and breakthrough "artivist" for Restore the Delta.
"A California youth delegate at the U.N. climate talks in Paris (COP21) and Morocco (COP22), Ryan's work centers on visual storytelling education projects applying an interdisciplinary approach of the arts as a catalyst for critical research and analysis. Camero’s work recognizes that efforts to address climate change and the ecological crisis are systematically tied to social, economic, and cultural oppression."
Ryan's work to protect the largest set of river deltas on the American west coast won him a 2015 Brower Youth Award and was documented in this short video:
Camero also spoke on Youth Leadership at the 2016 Bioneers Conference:
Currently Ryan is a Spiritual Ecology fellow, working on With and Within Water, a large-scale and intricate mural that uses visual metaphors to uplift commentary and discourse around historical and contemporary injustices in the state of California.
